Why I love animation - 2017

I’m Shana Dixon. I am an award winning filmmaker and background artist. For me, animation went from hobby to lifestyle when I realized my stories could whisk people to another place. They can make people feel big, like they can go anywhere and do anything. It wasn’t until a friend told me that my first ever animated short, RISE, inspired her to create art that was centered around being black. It gave her, and more importantly, it gave me the courage and strength to create content that is centered in our culture and who we are as people. It’s taken me awhile, but I have found that my goal in the animation industry is to uplift people, children and adults alike, from all different backgrounds; Have them be proud of who they are and acquire love and an appreciation  for those who are different from them. I want to make people feel more connected, more visible, and more loved through animation.
